HUNTER 37 CUTTER
Load day Monday, June 17, 2013
The boat transport company arrived on Friday afternoon and left his trailer here since he lived in the Wilmington, N.C. area and did not want to tow the trailer up and back down on Monday. While here, the driver gave us some tips on preparing the boat for transport. He moves two to three boats every week and knows his stuff. He was to be back on Monday morning around 9 am to load up
Crane arrived about 9 am and we had the parking lot empty so he could set up the outrigers and straps.
An hour later, he had the boat dangling from the hook about 20ft in the air.
Rented this 40,000# crane for 4 hours. He weighted the load at 20,000 pounds, about 1,000 less then when unloaded 3 years earlier.
Got to the shop early morning and made last minute preparations. The boat looks bare are removing all the canvas and radar tower, davits and wind turbine pole. Every thing is down below and secured. We shrink wrapped the pedestal, bimini frame and dodger frame, then zip tied to the boat. Same with the stern ladder.
One proud daddyCrane setting up for the liftSpreader bars on the readyCut some strips of carpet padding to use between the straps and the hull.Inspecting the straps. We have lift offjeff pulling on the lines to rotate the hull 180 degreesJeff pulling on his line to rotate the hull to face the trailer.
Mid rotationLied up with the trailer. Driver backed up trailer under the boat.Slowly lowering the boat onto the trailer.Crane hald the boat while the driver mounted all the securing points on the trailer and adjusted the pads.Jumped on board to release the strapsCrane pulling up to retrieve the mastMast was prepped and ready to flyFlying above the building
Driver wanted to rotate the mast so it would travel on it,s leading edge and not put pressure on the sail track and wire chase.Mast was shrink wrapped completelly and all the shrouts removed. The halyards were stowed in their bags and attached to the mast, then shrink wrapped completelly.Mast is adjusted on the craddle.Driver sudgested to tape the prop so it would not spin and burn the bearing. We pulled up the duct tape and presto.Driver did a great job, arrived on time and was very reasonable as far as the cost. Would recomend him highly. He travels all over the east coast.
